A former Marine in his first week with the Griffin Police Department apprehended a fleeing driver after an almost half-mile chase through a residential neighborhood Saturday evening.
Rookie officer Shaun Carr with the GPD, pursued by foot and arrested Antonio “Pig” Pittman on an almost half-of-a-mile chase after initiating a traffic stop at approximately 8:40 p.m. Saturday with officer Stan Phillips.
The stop escalated when Pittman, who was driving a Chevy truck that was allegedly weaving over both lanes on Lane Street, and his passenger, Troy Casey of Griffin, attempted to flee on foot.
Phillips was able to apprehend Casey while Carr took off on foot to track down Pittman, also of Griffin.
Pittman’s flight lasted approximately half a mile before his arrest at 544 North 13th Street. Carr continued the pursuit through yards, over fences, and through a densely forested area. This path took them from the area of Lane and Alabama streets to a dead end on North 13th Street.
Once Pittman was in custody, the officers learned that the vehicle belonged to Tony Flournoy of Barnesville. According to Pittman, Flournoy loaned him the vehicle during a drug transaction. Officers with the Special Investigations Unit/Tactical Response Unit were able to locate Flournoy at 720 Randall Street. While speaking with him, they learned that he was wanted for violating parole.
Pittman, 30, was arrested and charged with failure to maintain his lane, driving with a suspended license and obstruction of an officer. He has had previous prison sentences for cocaine possession, theft by receiving stolen property, and an entering auto charge.
Casey, 28, was arrested and charged with Obstruction of an Officer. He was paroled in 2003 after being incarcerated for Possession of Cocaine.
Tony Flournoy, 44, was arrested for Violation of Parole. He was on parole after being incarcerated for theft by conversion. He has had a previous incarceration for aggravated assault.
