Faith Christian Academy will host professional wrestling matches Saturday evening.

Marty Miller organized the event.

“The Royal Rangers camp from the CH church, the Congregational Holiness church, always does an outreach at the end of their camp,” he said.

Robert Mays, who is charge of the Royal Rangers, is a wrestling fan and wanted to do something related to that.

The wrestlers participating in the event include former National Wrestling Alliance World Heavyweight Champion “Wildfire” Tommy Rich, Ricky Morton (of the legendary tag team The Rock ‘N Roll Express) and Lex Luger, a two-time World Championship Wrestling Heavyweight Champion.

“It was pretty easy,” he said when asked what it took to attract such talent. “They work together a lot for a company called Kingdom Championship Wrestling. They do shows like this all over the state.”

He said the ultimate goal is the spread of the Christian religion.

“We just want to get people to come to Jesus,” he said. “That’s the No. 1 goal.”

Randy Ward of Griffin will participate in Saturday’s match under the name of Prince Rhumma, “the Mad Man from Afghanistan.” He said he hopes to bring people to church and to salvation by using wrestling as a draw.

“We’re looking forward to a big turnout this weekend,” he said.

He will wrestle Morton and Rich in a tag team match with wrestling veteran Chic Donovan.

The event is free to guests. The doors will open at 6 p.m. and the bell will ring at 7 p.m. Faith Christian Academy is at 221 Spalding Drive in Griffin, near Griffin Technical College.
