He was born in Bainbridge, Ga., to the late Thomas Peeler Caraway and Josie Paramore Caraway. He had been a member of Meansville Baptist Church for the last 57 years and also served as deacon. He enjoyed fishing, camping and working in his church. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, sisters and their spouses, Sam and Annie Dee Caraway, J.D. and Anie Caraway, Elberta and Cliff Edwards, Irene and John Thomas, Mildred and Goodrow Young and Calvin (June Bug) Koon.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Helen Landers Caraway; sons and daughters-in-law, Fred and Janice Caraway of Zebulon, Neal and Brenda Caraway of Concord, and Mark and Marie Caraway of Jacksonville, Fla.; grandchildren and their spouses, Kevin Caraway, Joey and Laura Caraway, Laraine Caraway, Tyler Caraway, and Jason and Telissa Caraway; great-grandchildren, Courtney Caraway, Hunter Caraway, Zeke Jackson, Haley Jackson, Cali Bufford, Hannah Fink, Elizabeth Caraway, Junior Caraway, Marissa Caraway, and Gabe Caraway; sister, Christine Koon of Barnesville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 25, in the Meansville Baptist Church with the Rev. Alan Newnan officiating. Interment will follow in Fincher Memorial Cemetery. Mr. Caraway will be taken to the church one hour prior to the service to lie in state. Friends may visit the family from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
