Griffin High split with visiting Eagle’s Landing on Senior Night Thursday, the Bears winning 3-1 and Lady Bears losing 3-2 in Region 4-AAAA tennis.

Scoring points for the Bears (5-7 overall, 4-4 region) were Mahlon Robinson (8-4) at No. 2 singles and Ricky Lewis (8-6) at No. 2 singles, as well as the No. 1 doubles team of Bradley Durden and Christian Hughley (8-2).

“The boys have resurrected themselves and come out of nowhere,” second-year Griffin head coach said of his boys team which has scored five wins in the last two weeks — a season after posting only one win.

Scoring points for the Lady Bears (7-5 overall, 5-3 region) were Sarah Mallett (8-1) at No. 2 singles and Forrest Dukes (8-3) at No. 3 singles as both improved to 11-1 on the season.

Griffin closes out the regular season with matches Tuesday at Locust Grove and Thursday at Woodland-Stockbridge.

The region tournament, originally scheduled for April 8-10, has been moved to April 16-17 at The Beach in Jonesboro because of the number of schools in the region that will be on spring break the week of April 8-10.
