STOCKBRIDGE — Vincent Harper scored :33 seconds into the second overtime period to lift Spalding High past Woodland-Stockbridge 4-3 Friday in Region 4-AAAA boys soccer.

Spalding (6-1 overall, 3-0) won it third in a row and for the sixth time in the last seven matches but more importantly remained undefeated in region play. Woodland (3-5 overall, 2-2 region), meanwhile, lost its second in a row and for the fourth time in the last five matches.

This one could have gone either way until Harper made it academic.

Evan Davis, assisted by Jake Jeffcoat, scored 15:23 in and Jake Mathis, assisted by Alex Engel, scored with 2:17 left in the first half to stake Spalding to a 2-0 lead. Woodland, however, scored 2:22 into the second half before tying the match on a free kick 10:11 in.

Spalding retook the lead on a goal by Jake Mathis, assisted by Jeffcoat, with 8:49 left in regulation. Woodland tied it a second time on a goal with 3:34 left to send the match in overtime.

The Jags return to action Tuesday night against region foe Stockbridge. This match was originally scheduled to be played at Stockbridge but has been shifted to Memorial Stadium. The Jags kickoff at 7:30 p.m., with the Lady Jags start at 5:30 p.m.
