STOCKBRIDGE — Cydney Swain scored on an assist from LiAnne Harris with 5:04 remaining to lift the No. 6-state ranked Spalding High Lady Jags past Woodland-Stockbridge 2-1 Friday night in Region 4-AAAA girls soccer.

Reece McIver led off the scoring just eight minutes into the match as she dribbled in behind the Woodland defenders and slotted a shot past their keeper, Jill Lesley. Woodland evened the match with seven minutes remaining in the half as Maurie Duff shot a 25-yard direct free kick into the Lady Jags net.

“The game was definitely a crowd pleaser,” said Coach Wayne Gardner. “Both teams battled pretty evenly in the first half, but we totally dominated that second half.”

The Lady Jags (7-1 overall, 3-0 region) took 16 shots with 11 of those on the goal and had 12 corner kicks during the match as they won their third in a row. Woodland (6-3 overall, 2-2 region) took only 3 shots with 2 of those on goal, and they had no corner kicks as they had a five-match win streak snapped.

The Lady Jags return to action Tuesday night against region foe Stockbridge. This match was originally scheduled to be played at Stockbridge but has been shifted to Memorial Stadium. The Lady Jags kickoff at 5:30 p.m., with the Jags starting at 7:30 p.m.
