Lady Jags win Ross Invitational

BARNESVILLE — The Spalding High Lady Jaguars track and field team got its season off to a fantastic start, winning the Erwin Ross Invitational Track Meet last Saturday at the Barnesville Sports Complex.

The Lady Jags won with 155 points, followed by Stockbridge with 81, Griffin with 69.50, Westside-Macon (62), Douglass (61), Locust Grove (61), Southwest DeKalb (47.50), Lamar Co. (42), Therrell (15), Northgate (8).

On the boys side, Lamar County won with 137.50 points, followed by Southwest DeKalb (110), Stockbridge (73.5), Griffin (70), Westside-Macon (60), Twiggs County (59), Locust Grove (48), Spalding (31), Therrell (7) and Northgate (4).

Results from the girls meet were — 100m dash: Shaquoria Reid 3rd 12.54, Jakiyah Stinson 6th 13.1, 200m dash: Veronica Anderson 2nd 27.79, Reid 7th 30.5. 400m dash: Anderson 2nd 1:04.3. 800m: Blair Dunaway 4th 3:00, Jasmine Bradley 5th 3:02. 1600m: Dunaway 5th 6:26, Stephanie Estrada 8th 7:22. 3200m: Stephanie Estrada 4th 15:41.59, Hope Lovelady 6th 17:01. 100m hurdles: Isis Ochoa 3rd 19.27, Alicia Jordan 8th 20:22. 300m Hurdles: Isis Ochoa 2nd 55.63, Alicia Jordan 4th 1:02.3. 4x100relay: Team A Isis Ochoa, Veronica Anderson, Jakiyah Stinson, Shaquoria Reid 2nd 52.52. 4x400 relay: 7th Team A 5:12.08 Tykeria Griffin, Blair Dunaway, Alicia Jordan, Jasmine Bradley. High jump: Twandalette Cotton 2ond 4’8, Desiree Corbin 3rd 4’8, Long Jump: Shaquoria Reid 1st 15’11, Twandalette Cotton 5th 15’1. Triple Jump: Twandalette Cotton 4th 30’08, Desiree Corbin 6th 28’10. Pole Vault: Mary Owen Howell 1st 6’6, Hope Lovelady 2nd 5’5. Girls shot: Zorria Mann 3rd 29.04, Isis Ochoa 4th 27.03, Discus: Chad Arnold 2nd 92’07, Nifeesha Witcher 3rd 77’10. Adapted shot put: Abby Argo 18’6.

“I was very proud of our girls. The prom was that night, and we have suffered some real setbacks team wise before the season started, but they stepped up and did the best they could on that very cold day,” said Lady Jags head coach Dolores Owen.

Spalding had Personal Bests Saturday: Alicia Jordan in the hurdles, Shaquoria Reid long jump, Twandalette Cotton long jump, Desiree Corbin triple jump, Zorria Mann shot put, Isis Ochoa shot put. Also, Abby Argo broke the school record in the adapted shot.

Spalding goes again Friday at Lamar Co. and Saturday at the Loganville Relays.
