The big three-oh-oh.

That’s what was going through Spalding head baseball coach Mickey Moody’s mind Wednesday night at Jaguar Field, right after his team cruised to an 11-1 win over the visiting Riverdale Raiders and landed its coach an historic 300th victory. The win was the third in a row for the Jaguars (3-0 overall, 1-0 Region 4-AAAA), while Riverdale (0-4, 0-1) remained winless on the season.

What was almost as remarkable as coach Moody’s record was that the first seven of the Jaguars’ 11 runs came on just one hit, a first-inning RBI single from sophomore Evan Skipper, who drove in two runs on the day. The rest of Spalding’s magic came on walks — 12 in the first four innings. In fact, during the first half of the game the Jaguars only registered seven at-bats out of 20 plate appearances.

The star of the game was starting pitcher Dustin Tardy, who in four innings of work gave up one unearned run while striking out 10 and allowing just one hit for the win. Reliever Logan Pryor came in to start the fifth and struck out the side for his only appearance.

After that, it was just a matter of getting to the 10-run rule, which the Jags accomplished in the sixth on the back of outfield singles from substitutes Tyler Tatum and Koleman Evans, both of whom scored in the final minutes of the game.

Powell Krepps and Chase Pruitt scored twice on the day, the former going 0-2 with two walks, and the latter 0-1 with one walk.

Spalding’s next game will be against region opponent North Clayton Friday at 5:30 p.m. at Jaguar Field.
