BARNESVILLE — The Griffin Bears boys soccer team finally got in the win column, defeating the Lamar County Trojans 5-3 in the finale of the Trojan Cup Soccer Tournament last Saturday morning.

The Bears improve to 1-3 overall with the win.

Tyler Peavy got the party started for Griffin, getting a goal which was assisted by Christian Mendoza, and another goal minutes later to stake the Bears to a 2-0 lead. Griffin got two goals from Marco Ibanez, a goal and an assist from Ricardo Fuentes and senior Brandon King added two assists in the contest against Lamar (0-3).

Jacob Feltman had 3 saves for the Bears, who outshot Lamar 28-6 in the match.

The Bears travel to Region 4-AAAA foe Dutchtown today at 7:30 p.m.

Northside-Warner Robins 5, Griffin 0 (girls):

BARNESVILLE — The Griffin Lady Bears gave up 4 goals in the first 25 minutes of the match and ended up losing 5-0 to the Lady Eagles last Saturday in the finale of the Trojan Cup.

Griffin falls to 0-4 on the season while Northside improves to 1-2.

The Lady Bears created more chances to score than they have all year, which was a plus, said Griffin head coach Bill Stikes. Also doing well for Griffin Saturday were keeper Rayne Pilgrim (19 saves) and wing player Ami Peterman.

The Lady Bears travel to face Dutchtown today at 5:30 p.m.
