Mrs. Lucile C. Carden

Mrs. Lucile Chasteen Carden, 94, Griffin, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at Brightmoor Nursing Center.

Mrs. Carden was born in Butts County on May 15, 1918. She is preceded in death by her parents, Samuel Asbury Chasteen and Lola Belle Chasteen; husband, Roy T. Carden. She was a member Highland Methodist Church. She worked in the textile industry for 35 years.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Asbury and Davene Carden; grandchildren and their spouses, Jeff and Janice Carden, Todd and Sharon Carden, Dana and Dena Jones; 9 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Eleanor Carden; several nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Mrs. Lucile C. Carden will be on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Following the visitation, funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Reverend Herb Flanders and Reverend Dave Fuller will officiate. Interment will follow in Westwood Gardens.

In lieu of flowers those desiring may make contributions to Highland Methodist Church, 2009 Old Atlanta Road, Griffin, GA 30223 in memory of Mrs. Carden.

Mrs. Glenda Kay Williams

Mrs. Glenda Kay Williams, 63, Milner, Ga., passed away Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, at Southern Regional Hospital.

Mrs. Williams was born in Senoia, Ga., on April 6, 1949. She is preceded in death by her parents, Troy Lee Chambers and Bertha Mae Crook Chambers. Mrs. Williams had been employed by Chick-fil-A for 16 years.

Survivors include her husband, Raymond Williams; children, Mike Williams and his wife, Stephanie, April Bowers and her husband, Ian,; grandchild, Caspian Bowers; brothers, Gary Chambers and his wife, Vicki, Lennis Chambers and his wife, Sandra; sisters, Joann Wheeler, Angie Collins and her husband, Jimmy; several nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Mrs. Glenda Kay Williams was Monday, Feb, 25, 2013, from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Miss Carolyn Gilbert

Aug. 12, 1916—Feb. 23, 2013

Miss Carolyn Gilbert, 96, passed away at Pike Manor, Zebulon, on Feb. 23, 2013. She was born in Calhoun and was the daughter of the late Luther A. Gilbert and the late Annie Lou Dennis Gilbert Graves. She had been a resident of Zebulon since 1928. She attended Georgia State College for Women and the University of North Carolina. After 35 years of service she retired from the Bank of Zebulon as a vice president and director.

Miss Gilbert had been a member of the Zebulon United Methodist Church for 84 years (since 1929) and was the oldest member in age and years of membership. She held numerous offices in the church, having been treasurer for 40 years. She was a member of and treasurer of the United Methodist Women, Sunday School teacher, member of the choir and of several committees. She was generous with her time to help others get to church, to the doctor, to go shopping, and to go for fun times.

She is survived by her “Special Family”, Ellen Spinks, Merrelyn Spinks, Jerry and Carol Spinks of Zebulon; Matthew and Jessica (Spinks) Allen, Lucas, Hudson, and Colton Allen of Woodstock. Other special people are Kenneth and Marie Tarpley of Griffin, and Jack and Pat Johnson of Williamson. Also surviving are several cousins including James R. and Joan Dezell and Family of Miami, Fla., Ann and Chuck Linch of Fayetteville, Alice and Norman Jones of Milner, Bess Rogers of Canton, Wilbur and Norma Nixon of Fayetteville, James and Ruth Johnson of Fayetteville and Helen Graves of Fayetteville. The family would like to extend special thanks to Pike Manor and her sitters for the excellent and loving care they provided.

Friends may visit the family from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27 in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home with her pastor, the Rev. Carol Scroggs, and the Rev. Griff Jones officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan.

Mrs. Sarah Louise Chapman Kilgore, 82, Griffin, Georgia, passed away Monday, February 25, 2013 at Brightmoor Nursing Center.

Mrs. Kilgore was born in Fayette County, Georgia on October 2, 1930. She is preceded in death by her parents, Milton Chapman and Mae Whitlock Chapman, her sisters, Varnor Peeples, Ethel Huddleston, Emily Goodman and Margaret Stubbs. She was a member of Crestview Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Stewart J. Kilgore; son and daughter-in-law, Calvin and Elaine Kilgore of Fayetteville; grandchildren, April Powell and her husband Timothy of Cumming, Tom Kilgore of Atlanta, George Kilgore of Fayetteville; great grandchildren, Steven Powell, Abigail Powell; sister, Helen Britt of Cleveland; brothers, Wade Chapman of Athens, Billy Chapman of Fayetteville, Donald Chapman of Griffin; several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Dempsey Ray Chambers, 76, of Ranburne, Ala., formerly of Griffin, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013.

Mr. Chambers was preceded in death by his father, James Franklin Chambers, mother, Nellie Mae (Mince) Chambers, daughter, Gloria Kay Chambers, brothers, Corbett, Raymond, Paul and Henry Chambers, sisters, Ruby Mays, Ester Moseley, Ruth Ogletree, Willie-Kate Snow, and Leslie Evans.

Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Debbie Chambers, daughter, Brenda Smith of Las Vegas, Nev., son, Charles Chambers and his wife Nora Lynn of Athens, Ga., daughter, Virginia James and husband Ray James of Griffin, Ga., son, Jerry Chambers and wife Tammie of Athens, Ga., stepdaughter, Allison Butler of Ranburne, Ala., brothers, AD Chambers and wife Sybil, of Griffin, Ga., and Jimmy Chambers. Mr. Chambers also had 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Services for Mr. Chambers will be conducted on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Cleburne Memorial Cemetery in Ranburne, Ala.

Mrs. Mary Etta Barkley



Mrs. Mary Etta Barkley was born on May 10, 1935. She was the daughter of the late Jimmy and Emma Lou Prather.

She was retired from Spalding Regional Hospital with 32 years of service. She was an Usher and dedicated member of Corinth Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her twin sister Mary Helen Gibbs, Clara Prather, and brothers Jimmy Prather, Willie B. Prather, and Clarence Prather.

Mrs. Mary E. Barkley is survived by her husband of 61 years Mr. Roy Barkley. They had four children, two sons Roy “Toot” Barkley, James “Randy” Barkley, and two daughters Jeanette Barkley and Etta L. Odom. The had six grandchildren Richard Barkley, Kelley Barkley, LaShanda McKinney, Mario Odom, Nitia Walker, Tiffany Odom, and Quentin Barkley. They have 17 great-grandchildren; sisters Annie Ruth Underwood and Annie Sanders of Atlanta, Ga., Rosa L. Moore, Opal (Leon) Hollis; brothers J.W. Prather and James Prather; six aunts, Rosa Merritt, Bessie Mae Richardson, Earlene Davis, Essie Driver, and the late Cora Crawley and Dessie Henderson, and one uncle, James “June” Foster, all of Griffin, Ga.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at Corinth Baptist Church.
