About 62 years after he was killed in action during the Korean War, PFC Bobby Byars was laid to rest with full military honors Saturday at Oak Hill Cemetery at the Griffin Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

Prior to the interment, his family, friends, veterans and active duty members gathered at Oak Hill Baptist Church for Byars’ funeral service.

“Today we have the joy and honor to welcome home a national hero and a Griffin hero,” said Oak Hill Baptist Senior Pastor Chris Holdorf. “I want to thank you for being here.”
