Mr. Billy E. Pitts, age 76 of Griffin, passed away on Wednesday, February 13, 2012 at his residence.

Mr. Pitts was born on August 19, 1936, a lifelong resident of Griffin. He is preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Velma Pritchett Pitts. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. Mr. Pitts retired as a Sargeant with the City of Griffin Police Department after 31 years of service. After his retirement he owned and operated B & L Lawn Service for 20 years until 2012 when he turned his business over to his grandson.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Irvin Pitts; daughter, Jill Pitts Griffith; grandson, Storm Betsill; brothers and sister-in-law, Clayton and Becky Pitts, Wallace Pitts; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Lynn Irvin, Ronnie and Faye Irvin; several nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Mr. Billy Pitts will be Thursday, February 14, 2013 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at the funeral home. Graveside funeral services will be conducted on Friday, February, 15, 2013 at 11:00 am in the new section of Oak Hill Cemetery. Reverend Argin Floyd will officiate. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:15 am on Friday.

William ‘Glynn’ Wallace Sr.

Died Feb. 8, 2013

McDonough resident

William “Glynn” Wallace Sr., of McDonough, passed away at Sacred Journey Hospice on Feb.8, 2013. Mr. Wallace was a resident of Lake City for 50 years. A service was held in the chapel at Thomas L. Scroggs Funeral Directors on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at 2:00 pm. The Rev. John Martin officiated. The family received friends Monday evening from 5-8 p.m. Interment followed at Sherwood Memorial Park in Jonesboro.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Doris Wallace; his parents; three brothers; and two sisters. Survivors include his daughters, Glenda Wilson and David of Concord, Teresa Wallace of Griffin, Barbara West of McDonough; William Wallace Jr and Pattie of Newnan; many grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Mr. Kenneth Wayne Quick, age 62 of Griffin, passed away on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at his residence.

Mr. Quick was born in Thomaston, Georgia on April 11, 1950. He is preceded in death by his parents, James E. Quick and Nellie Casteel Quick; brothers, Tony Quick, Willie (Pee Wee) Quick. He was retired from the City of Griffin and was a member of Voice To The Nations Church.

Survivors include his wife, Theresa G. Quick; daughters and brothers-in-law, Tracie and Rodney Miles, Tonya and Jay Shirey; granddaughters, Torrie Miles and Emree Shirey; sisters, Patricia Perkins Gibson and husband, Ted, Sherrel Gregg and husband, Weldon; brothers, Johnny Quick and wife, Marie, Richard Quick, Jimmy Goen and wife, Shirley; several nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Mr. Wayne Quick will be on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Mr. Hilton B. Akins

July 29, 1947 —Feb. 7, 2013

We thank God for sharing 65 years of the life of Hilton B. Akins, who was born July 29, 1947 in Pike County to the late Booker T. Akins and the late Sis Ora Dewberry Akins. Mr. Akins departed this life on Thursday, February 7, 2013. Being brought up in a Christian home, he came to know the Lord at an early age and joined The Pine Chapel Baptist Church, worked on The Usher Board Ministry and later was ordained as a deacon. He was a graduate of the class of 1967 from Booker T. High School, Barnesville, GA and entered into school in Houston, TX, where he received his Master’s Electrician License. A very quiet person, loving and kind, that cared for his family. He was employed at Texas Southern University, Houston, TX, where he retired in 2010.

Mr. Akins leaves to cherish his unforgettable memories, his son, Christopher King Akins; grandson, Joesiynath L. King; seven sisters, Mattie Rucker of Griffin, Wyomie Dixon (Charles) of Linden, New Jersey, Ionie Searcy (James) of Thomaston, Shirley (Tony) of Griffin, Brenda Akins of Houston, TX, Evaline Akins of Griffin, Connie Akins of Griffin; brother, Arthur Akins (Claudette) of Seffner, FL; a very special family friend, Ulyssese Watson; two aunts, Ola Mae Willis of Griffin, Eva Parks of Griffin; two uncles, Elder Robert Dewberry, Elder George Dewberry of Ohio; a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives that mourn his passing.
