Milner resident

TSGT Charles Lee Jamerson, USAF (Ret), 77, of Milner passed away on Monday, Feb. 4, 2013 in a Macon Healthcare facility. “Shot” was born on March 18, 1935 in Wahalla, S.C. to the late Mr. William Andrew Jamerson and the late Mrs. Alma Jean Crowe Jamerson. Throughout his life, TSGT Jamerson was a loyal and loving brother to his family in western North Carolina. He always held close to his heart the values that he had gained growing up, including the importance of commitment, love of God and Country, Concern for others, and the love of his family and friends.

Mr. Jamerson joined the U.S. Air Force in 1953. As flight dngineer aboard a C-130, he spent most of his career transporting supplies, equipment, and soldiers in and out of Vietnam. He often commented that he had the distinct honor of bringing home our heroes who had made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. He would say that it was humbling to have the privilege of returning that most precious cargo to their loved ones. The task was especially personal for him, as he had a brother shot down over Laos, whom still remains listed as MIA.

After serving his country for 20 years, he retired in 1973 and joined the Barnesville Fire Department, where he ended another 20- year career as fire chief for the City of Barnesville. Rounding out his life’s work of public service, he then served as a park ranger for the Girl Scouts in Lizella.

His sense of humor and optimistic spirit enabled him to battle heart disease for 10 years, spending quality time with his brothers, either hunting in Georgia or ice fishing in Indiana. His passion for hunting brought he and his brothers together for more than 30 years. Described by a close friend as hands down the most genuine person one could ever meet, Jamerson loved with obvious sincerity and was loved in return by countless friends and beloved family who now grieve his passing.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Vivian Jamerson of Milner; a daughter, Marquita Jamerson Orr (and Bryant) of Anderson, S.C.; a son, Todd Lee Jamerson (and Shelly Wright) of Griffin; seven grandchildren, Thomas Jamerson Martin, Jennifer Martin Combs, Amanda Dawn Jamerson, Jesi Ray Hickman, Aaron Lee Jamerson, Bryant Theofilos Orr, and Melissa Ann Orr; three great-grandchildren, Blake Martin, Kendrick Jamerson, and Danikah Hickman; two brothers, William Jamerson of Walton, Ind., and Robert Lynn Jamerson of Rosman, N.C.; seven sisters, Brenda Jamerson Mahoney of Rosman, N.C., Mildred J.
