All four local public high school basketball teams are jockeying for position heading down the homestretch of the regular season as the Region 4-AAAA Tournament at Woodland-Stockbridge in two weeks looms larger and larger with each passing day.

Here’s a look at where each of the four teams stand heading into the next-to-last regular season games tonight:

* SPALDING HIGH BOYS: The Jaguars (9-10 overall, 6-7 subregion), which currently sit tied for fourth in the Region 4-AAAA Div. B standings with crosstown rival Griffin High, still have games left against third-place North Clayton (11-11, 8-5) tonight at home and against last-place Upson-Lee (9-11, 4-9) on Tuesday in Thomaston.

Spalding won 82-73 at North Clayton on Jan. 15 and lost 79-76 in overtime on Jan. 18 at home against Upson-Lee. Spalding can still finish third outright if it wins its last two games and North Clayton loses its last two subregions games, the second of which is Tuesday at Griffin High.

* GRIFFIN HIGH BOYS: The Bears (12-10 overall, 6-7 subregion), which currently sit tied for fourth in the Region 4-AAAA Div. B standings with crosstown rival Spalding High, still have games left against second-place Riverdale (13-10, 9-4) tonight at home and third-place North Clayton (11-11, 8-5) on Tuesday at home.

Griffin lost 74-69 in overtime on Jan. 15 at Riverdale and 61-45 on Jan. 18 at North Clayton. The best the Bears can do is finish in a tie for third if North Clayton loses its last two subregion games and Griffin wins its last two subregion games.

*SPALDING HIGH GIRLS: The Lady Jags (11-10 overall, 5-8 subregion), which currently sit fifth in the Region 4-AAAA Div. B standings, still have games left against fourth-place North Clayton (10-12, 6-6) tonight at home and against last-place Upson-Lee (6-15, 4-8) on Tuesday in Thomaston.

The Lady Jags lost 53-38 on Jan. 15 at North Clayton and won 52-46 in overtime on Jan. 18 at home against Upson-Lee. The best the Lady Jags can do if they win out and Griffin and North Clayton each lose their last two is finish tied for third with Griffin.

* GRIFFIN HIGH GIRLS: The Lady Bears (10-12 overall, 7-6 subregion), which currently sit third in the Region 4-AAAA Div. B standings, still have games left against second-place Riverdale (12-11, 8-5) tonight at home and fourth-place North Clayton (10-12, 6-6) on Tuesday at home.

Griffin won 52-42 on Jan. 15 at Riverdale and 51-47 on Jan. 18 at North Clayton. The best the Lady Bears can do is finish second if they win out and Riverdale, which also has to play first-place Jonesboro on Tuesday, loses out.
