The Griffin High School rifle team open the season with an 1137-971 win Jan. 10 against Creekside. Co-captains Ale Gonzales (290) and Kayla Collett (288) led the way as well as Jessica Harry (281), Grace Mclean (278) and Laura Boyd (251). With the graduation of four members from last year's team — including Sarah Howell (North Georgia) and William Cross (Columbus State) who are competing at the collegiate level this season — the team is considered in a re-building mode this year. New members on the varsity include: Jessica Harry-second year, Laura Boyd-first year, and Brittani Pittman-first year and Twilight Moody-first year.
Longtime Bears coach Julius Lang was very pleased with the results of the first match. He said that team surprised him with a score of 1137. He was stunned but proud and happy with their performance.
