The City of Griffin is losing 96 years of experience with the retirement of three employees.

The city commission is scheduled to recognize three retiring employees tonight with 36, 35 and 25 years of service to the city. The employees are Sonny Spear, James Beasley and Donald Bailey.

Also on the tonight’s agenda are several equipment or services purchases and the call for elections for City Commission Districts 1, 3, 5 and 6 on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013. That vote is scheduled to also establish the qualifying fee at $403.20.

The following City Commissioners currently serve — District 1, Cynthia Ward; District 3, Ryan McLemore; District 5, Dick Morrow; and District 6, Shaheer Beyah. The other three commission posts, District 2, District 4, and At-Large will be up for election in 2015 as the city commissioners serve staggered four-year terms.

The city is also scheduled to vote on requesting the Federal Aviation Administration to declare four tracts of airport property as non-essential for aviation use. The Griffin-Spalding Airport Authority has requested the city and county, which own the land, make the request.

The four tracts are described as Parcel No. 1, 14 +/- acres commonly known as Airport Road Park; Parcel No. 2, 16 +/- acres commonly known as Kiwanis Fairgrounds; Parcel No. 3, 8.5 +/- acres commonly known as bike trail; and Parcel No. 4, 50 +/- acres commonly known as grass strip area.
