STOCKBRIDGE — The Spalding Jaguars basketball team trailed the entire game, made a late rally in the fourth quarter but still ended up falling to the Stockbridge High Tigers 64-54 Saturday evening in Region 4-AAAA crossover action on the road.

Division B Spalding lost its fourth straight game to fall to 6-8 overall and 3-5 in the region. Stockbridge, out of Division A, improves to 4-11, 2-6.

This was a makeup game from earlier in the season. The two teams were to play in December but since Stockbridge’s football team hosted a state playoff game on the same December night, the game was rescheduled for last Saturday.

Stockbridge led 13-11 after the first quarter and 27-21 at the half on Saturday. The Tigers kept Spalding at bay in the third quarter, taking a 41-32 lead into the fourth. The Jags showed their usual fight down the stretch, cutting the Tigers’ lead to four points late in the fourth, but Stockbridge sank two straight 3-pointers to pull away and win the game.

“Those two threes were big. But it just wasn’t that. We couldn’t hit shots again and we didn’t capitalize off their turnovers,” said Jags head coach Kemo Spear. “We just have to keep on fighting. We’ll break this streak soon; we just have to continue to fight.”

Markee Dickerson led Spalding with 14 points and Jequarrian Berry chipped in 9 for the Jags, who will try to end their losing streak at Division B foe North Clayton today at 7:30 p.m.
