Futral Road Elementary School will host its 13th annual Heart Hustle Race on Feb. 9 at the school, at 180 Futral Road.

The event includes a 5K run and a 5K walk — both scheduled to start at 9 a.m. that day — as well as a 1-mile fun run and a tot trot, beginning at 8:30 a.m., according to Race Director Jamie McLean.

Participants in the 5K run and the 5K walk will be competing in different age categories, with winners receiving medals.

The registration fee for the Heart Hustle Race is $15 for adults and $10 for people under 18 years of age if participants register by Jan. 18. After that date, including the day of the event, the fee is $20 for adults and $15 for people under 18 years. Those who register early are guaranteed to receive a T-shirt, said McLean.

While all proceeds will benefit various programs at Futral Road Elementary, McLean said there has not been a goal set as to how many participants organizers would like to see.

“We want, of course, as many people as possible,” she said.

McLean said the event was named Heart Hustle because it’s always been in February and close to Valentine’s Day and because the exercise is good for a healthy heart.

“We want people to be healthier,” she said, adding that the event will hopefully draw entire families to Futral Road Elementary. “We want families to participate. It’s something they can do together.”

Entry forms can be obtained at www.gscs.org/futralroad or by contacting McLean at jamie.mclean@gscs.org.
