As police officers were approaching the residence, they were flagged down at 429 N. Fourth St., where several people advised them that the victim was on the porch of the residence. According to a GPD Incident report, the victim identified himself as Dalecarlian Henley, 28, and stated that he had been shot in the lower left side of his back.
Henley further stated that he ran from the residence at 435 N. Fourth St., where the shooting took place, to his current location to get away. He added that he did not know the name of the shooter.
Spalding Regional Hospital EMS arrived at the scene shortly thereafter and made the determination to life-flight Henley to the Atlanta Medical Center via Emory Air Flight. Henley’s condition was unknown as of Thursday afternoon.
Overnight, GPD investigators arrested 32-year-old Dereck Britt, of 2060 Haven Chappell Road, Griffin, in regard to the shooting and charged him with one count of aggravated assault. He is currently being held at the Spalding County Jail.
It was not immediately know what may have caused the shooting.
