The Lady Crusaders got balanced scoring and played strong defense last Friday evening, beating Dawson Street Christian School 56-38 in non-region action at home for their third straight win.
The Lady Crusaders are 6-4 overall and haven’t won three straight games since they began the 2006 season at 3-0.
GC led 13-10 after the first quarter, 28-25 at the half and 41-33 heading into the fourth quarter. The home team held Dawson Street to only 13 second-half points, bottling up the Dawson Street point guard in that half.
“Dawson Street’s point guard scored at least 34 of their 38 points. But in the second half, we clamped down on her and she got tired and didn’t score much,” said Lady Crusaders head coach David Hammond. “I’m proud of my girls’ effort out there.”
Brittany Foster led the way for GC with 14 points and 8 rebounds, followed by Lily Hammond with 12 points and Katy Hammond, Leyah Brown and Chelsey Deaton chipped in 8 points each. Katy Hammond also dished out 10 assists and snagged 8 rebounds as well.
GC traveled to play Arlington Christian late Tuesday and is off until the Heritage Tournament on Dec. 28-29.
