Griffin gets back on track, beats Lamar

The Griffin Bears basketball team rebounded from its big loss to Eagle’s Landing Friday, getting a big 61-44 win over the Lamar County Trojans Saturday evening in non-region action at The House.

Griffin (6-3) sprinted to a 15-4 first-quarter lead and didn’t look back, rolling to its second victory in its last three games. Griffin held a double-digit lead after every quarter, taking a 37-13 lead at the half and a 48-31 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Rayshod Armstrong led the Bears with 11 points and J.R. Ellis and Kelvin Waldon chipped in 10 points each for the home team. Lamar (1-2) was led by Montravious Evans and Quay Searcy with 10 points apiece.

Griffin plays this same Lamar team at their place in Barnesville tonight at 7:30 p.m. before going back there next week to play in the Lamar County Christmas Tournament.

Griffin 60, Lamar County 49 (girls):

Shacoria Jones continued her strong play of late, scoring 19 points to lead the Griffin Lady Bears to a 60-49 win over the Lamar County Lady Trojans Saturday evening in non-region action at The House.

Jones, who scored 24 in Griffin’s win over Eagle’s Landing Friday, led a balanced attack as Xandria Hosely scored 12 points, Chelsea Prather added 9 and Victoria Middlebrooks chipped in 8 for Griffin, which led 14-12 after one quarter, 31-18 at the half and 47-34 heading into the final period.

A’Ja Johnson led Lamar (1-2) with 15 points and her teammate Tamara Watts chipped in 12.

Griffin (4-5) plays this same Lamar team at their place in Barnesville tonight at 6 p.m. before going back there next week to play in the Lamar County Christmas Tournament.
