WILDLIFE APP: SOCIAL CIRCLE — Android and iPhone Users have a new tool in the woods and on the water. Georgia hunters, anglers and wildlife enthusiasts now have an app of their own!
The Official Georgia Fishing, Hunting & Wildlife Guide, powered by Pocket Ranger® technology, is the official app of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division. This free, mobile app gives both novice and seasoned sportsmen and outdoor enthusiasts essential information in the palm of their hand.
Features include: Species profiles, weather information, Georgia rules and regulations, licensing information, boat ramp locations and maps of public wildlife areas.
Advanced GPS technology enhances any trek through the woods by allowing users to track friends’ locations, mark trails with photo waypoints and keep track of wildlife sightings. Sportsmen can even cache map tiles for offline use.
Wildlife Resources Division manages nearly 1 million acres of public lands for wildlife and habitat in Georgia. These Wildlife Management Areas and Public Fishing Areas are featured on the app.
App updates are already in development and will include enhanced birding trails, expanded saltwater species list, a Trophy Case for posting photos and comments and universal formatting for horizontal and vertical viewing.

ATHLETIC-INSPIRED ART CONTEST: ATHENS — The Georgia Museum of Art at the University of Georgia is sponsoring “Art for Everyone,” an art competition inspired by UGA athletics and the work of illustrator Jack Davis. The contest is being held in conjunction with Davis’ exhibit “Beyond the Bulldog: Jack Davis,” which will be on view at the museum through Jan. 6.
Designs for the contest may feature UGA’s mascot Hairy Dawg and/or anything related to UGA athletics; however, the name and/or likeness of any current UGA student athlete and/or coach cannot be used. Details on how to submit artwork and entry guidelines are available at www.georgiamuseum.org/artforeveryone.
Entries will be posted as they are submitted, and visitors to the site can share their favorites on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest. The public can vote on submissions once a day, and the winner’s art will be featured on a souvenir cup sold at Stegeman Coliseum during UGA football games. Davis will select the winner from the top three recipients of contest votes.

GSHF NOMINATIONS: Do you know of a stellar athlete, coach or contributor in any sports arena who deserves recognition? The Georgia Sports Hall of Fame (GSHF) is calling for nominations of individuals, who may be living or deceased, to be considered for induction into the Hall of Fame. Nomination categories are 1.) Athlete, 2.) Coach/Manager, 3.) Contributor, 4.) Senior, or 5.) Multi-Sport/Combination.
All nominees go through a three-tiered screening process by committees composed of GSHF Authority members and representatives from across the state in all areas of sports. Nominations must be submitted on nomination forms provided by GSHF and returned to: Georgia Sports Hall of Fame, P.O. Box 4644, Macon, GA 31208.

The Georgia Sports Hall of Fame and Museum in Macon is the country’s largest state sports museum. The 43,000-square-feet state-of-the-art museum houses over 3,000 artifacts.
