With the win, the GC Lady Crusaders improve to 2-1 on the season. Last season, GC finished the entire season with a 2-21 record. The GC basketball girls haven’t had a winning record after three games since going 3-0 in 2006, their first season in the GISA.
“The girls are on a mission to be competitive and hopefully make the state playoffs this season,” said Lady Crusaders head coach David Hammond. “That’s our goal and we’re working toward that.”
Brittany Foster scored 15 points and had 8 rebounds to lead the Lady Crusaders while Lily and Katy Hammond chipped in 6 points each. Katy Hammond led them with 4 assists and Hannah Branham pulled down 10 rebounds.
GC opened up with a 15-5 burst after one quarter and never looked back. GC led 24-11 at the half and 36-17 heading into the fourth quarter.
The Lady Crusaders' next game is a road contest Thursday at The Weber School at 6 p.m. GC defeated Weber 48-26 at home on Nov. 13.

Grace Christian 96, Griffin Christian 76 (boys)
FAYETTEVILLE — The Griffin Christian Crusaders basketball team ran into a buzzsaw Monday night in the form of the Grace Christian Academy Eagles.
Grace had a 27-point second quarter to turn a 20-19 deficit into a 46-32 halftime lead and eventually win 96-76 over GC in non-region action on the road. It’s the first loss of the year for GC (1-1) while Grace Christian improves to 2-3.
“Grace couldn’t miss from the field. We had a dry spell in the second quarter and they hit almost every shot,” said Crusaders head coach Mic Savage. “I think one of their kids hit seven 3-pointers in the game. They were on fire.”
The Crusaders weren’t hot as a whole. Wil Savage sank a trey to start the second quarter and the Crusaders didn’t score again until 2:28 left in the quarter. While GC was in the midst of its cold spell, Grace went on its run and blew the game wide open. Grace had the big halftime lead and led 70-41 entering the final stanza. GC only scored 9 points in the third quarter.
The Crusaders did manage to cut the Eagles lead to 11 points with 2:28 left in regulation, but GC guard Jonathan Hammond fouled out and the lead ballooned after that.
“Defensively, we weren’t where we should’ve been. We have got to shore that up,” said coach Savage.
Wil Savage led GC with 33 points, Hammond added 21 and Taylor Dunn chipped in 9. David Thomas led GC in rebounds with 12 and Amir Hightower had 7 assists.
GC’s next game is a road contest at The Weber School Thursday at 7:30 p.m. GC defeated Weber 57-43 at home on Nov. 13.
