Both local football teams continue their season next week, Griffin at home in a play-in game Friday and Spalding in a season-ending game Thursday at Tara Stadium in Jonesboro.

Spalding (1-7-1), which has lost its last seven in a row, faces winless Forest Park (0-9) which lost 31-17 Friday to Mt. Zion-Jonesboro. Mt. Zion-Jonesboro (1-8) won for the first time this season on Friday.

The Jags and the Forest Park Panthers have never met before on the gridiron.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. on Thursday at Tara Stadium.

Spalding will be trying to get back in the win column for the first time since a 20-13 win against Rutland in the second game of the season.

Meanwhile, Region 4-AAAA Div. B champion Griffin (8-1) carries a four-game win streak into its play-in game against Region 4-AAAA Div. A fourth-place Eagle’s Landing (1-8).

While the only win for Eagle’s Landing this season was a 30-28 victory two weeks ago against Woodland-Stockbridge, Griffin’s only loss this season was 17-14 to Stockbridge in the fifth game of the season when the Tigers made a field goal with no time left on the clock.

Griffin and Eagle’s Landing have met twice in history, a 48-13 Griffin victory in 2004 at ELHS and a 34-0 Griffin win in 2005 at Memorial Stadium in Griffin.

Dutchtown’s 21-14 win over Woodland-Stockbridge on Friday set Eagle’s Landing up as the fourth seed. Dutchtown, which would have been fourth if it lost, led 21-0 but then had to hang on at the end.
