The City of Griffin has begun negotiations on water sales with its largest customer, the Spalding County Water and Sewerage Authority.

The current contract expires in 2020, but as part of the agreement on the proposed airport site, the city, county and water authority agreed to discuss renegotiating the water sales agreement. City Manager Kenny Smith said he invited County Manager William Wilson and Water Authority Chairman Dave Lamb to lunch to begin discussions.

Smith said “the main contention is water system depreciation and a return on assets. Obviously the county is looking for a rate reduction.”
