The Spalding County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an “odd odor” out at Tyus Park.

Two women reportedly smelled pot out near a maintenance building at the park about 10 a.m. Wednesday and called the Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Wendell Beam said “deputies went out and smelled an odd odor but could not determine what it was.”

The women also reportedly smelled the same odor coming from a deputy’s car as he came out from the woods and saw smoke coming from the car when it was in the woods. They reportedly told this to the deputy who responded to the scene regarding the call and later to the sheriff as well.

Beam said the matter is being investigated, but “we don’t have anything to support that allegation at this time.”

He did say, “one deputy was down there near the maintenance building.”
