EATONTON — Lamar County twins Lawrence and Lance Austin accounted for six of the team’s seven touchdowns last Friday night, leading the No. 4 state-ranked Trojans to a 51-0 rout of the Putnam County War Eagles in Region 4-AA action on the road.

Lamar County won its sixth straight game to improve to 6-0-1 overall and 4-0 in region play while Putnam County falls to 2-5, 1-3.

Lamar got the party started with a 10-yard touchdown run from Lawrence Austin at the 6:57 mark of the first quarter and after a successful 2-point conversion, the Trojans led 8-0 and never looked back. Lawrence scored on TD runs of 7 and 1 yard and Lance threw a 7-yard TD pass to Nick Hardin. Lamar’s Jeremy Fletcher scored on a 1-yard TD run and when the smoke cleared, Lamar led Putnam 37-0 at the half.

Lawrence scored on TD runs of 21 and 34 yards in the second half for the final 51-0 margin.

The Trojans should be in for a battle when they host the Bleckley County Royals in Region 4-AA action Friday at 7:30 p.m. Bleckley is 6-1 overall and tied with Lamar at 4-0 in region play, so Friday’s game will be for sole possession of first place.

Pike County (4-3, 2-1 Region 2-AAA) was off last Friday, but the Pirates will also host a tough opponent this week. Pike will square off with region foe and Class AAA No. 1 state-ranked Peach County (7-0, 3-0) Friday at 7:30 p.m.
