LOCAL SPORTS BRIEFS: SHS Swim Team parents meeting Thursday

There will be a parent meeting at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 18 in the commons at Spalding High for any boy or girl interested in swimming for Spalding High this season.

SHS BASEBALL GOLF TOURNEY:

The Spalding High Baseball Booster Club Fall Golf Tournament will be held 9 a.m., Oct. 20 at the Griffin City Golf Course.

Fee to enter the four-man scramble is $200 per team.

SHS TENNIS TOURNEY:

The Spalding High boys and girls tennis teams are sponsoring a round-robin fund raiser where you can come and play alongside team members from 2-5 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 21 at the Spalding High tennis courts.

Fee is $25 per player.

LOCAL HOF CAR SHOW:

The Southern Cruisers are sponsoring the Truett’s Car Show from 11 a.m., to 3 p.m., Oct. 27 at Truett’s Grill, 1455 N. Expressway in Griffin to benefit the Griffin/Spalding Athletic Hall of Fame.

There will be free candy, a 50/50 drawing, prizes, contests and individuals can also dress up for Halloween. Admission is free but there is a registration fee of $10 for the cars.

BASKETBALL REGISTRATION:

The Spalding Basketball Association is holding registration for the upcoming season from 10 a.m., until 2 p.m., on Saturdays through Nov. 3.

Registration takes place at Volunteer Park on Oct. 6 and at Fairmont Park thereafter.

BEAR ASKEW TOURNEY:

Deadline is 6 p.m., Oct. 29 or the first 96 golfers to register for the second annual Bear Askew Golf tournament to benefit Stepping Stones. The tournament will be held 9 a.m., Sunday, Nov. 4 at the Griffin City Golf Course.

Entry fee for the four-man Fort Lauderdale is $60 per person which includes social, green fee, cart and awards luncheon. Teams will be drawn by the golf committee.

The social for the event will be 6:30 p.m., Nov. 3at VFW Post 5448. The awards luncheon will also be held at the post following the event. Golfers, spouses or dates are invited to both of these functions.

Stepping Stones will be selling hole sponsorships. Please support this organization.

The entry fee can be paid at the VFW Post of to any member of the Golf Committee. Members on the committee include: Chad Askew, Josh Askew, Carlton English, Rodney Harris, Roger Harris, Chuck Hammill, Steve Ballard, Randy Walker, Mike Crowder, Terry Green, Ricky Stephens and Wayne Hardin.

Quail Forever, in conjunction with the Department of Natural Resources, Griffin Gun Club and Devotie Baptist Church, is offering free hunter safety courses at Devotie Baptist Church, 1355 Experiment St. in Griffin, as follows:

— Oct. 30 from 6-8 p.m. Test Only

— Dec. 4 from 6-8 p.m. Test Only
