The roof for the new Spalding County Senior Citizens Center will cost $136,201.12 more than expected.

“Until we started tearing off the old roof, we didn’t know,” County Manager William Wilson Jr. said.

He said that about $5,000 was budgeted for decking replacement, as most of the leaks were in the back portion of the building. He said that as layers were removed, “We found 85 percent was just about rusted out.”

Tracey Moss, one of the architects, said “During the design phase a visual inspection was done and everything appeared to be in good shape from underneath. There was no indication of rust during the inspection.”
