Connie Hendrix was named September’s “Strongest Link” recipient for the city of Griffin.

Hendrix is an administrative secretary with the Central Services Department. She has been with the city for 24 years and has always been a loyal and dedicated employee, according to her nomination information.

“That is even more evident this year,” said her supervisor, Johnnie Stephens, as Hendrix was diagnosed with breast cancer in May, underwent surgery in June and has been undergoing chemotherapy since, “but has continued to work.”

Even with doctor appointments and weekly treatments, “she has continued her full workload so that her absences do not put a hardship on others,” Stephens wrote in the nomination.

Central Services Director Phill Francis said that since coming to Central Services, Hendrix has converted all hand-written forms and reports to functional spread sheets, saving the department countless man hours of time-consuming work. She has completed Levels I, II and III of the University of Georgia’s Management Courses, and graduated from the Griffin-Spalding Chamber of Commerce Leadership Development Program.

She has been recognized at the state level when as secretary for the Utilities Protection Committee she was awarded Statewide Secretary of the Year in 2005. She was also voted “Best of Best Secretary” in 2007 in The Griffin Daily News and has served as entertainment director for the Mayfling Festival for more than 14 years.

“With her positive attitude,” Stephens wrote in the nomination, “she has continued to be an inspiration to those around her. Her enthusiasm will also make her the No. 1 cheerleader to head a Relay for Life for the city next year.”

The “Strongest Link” Award is given monthly to a deserving employee who has demonstrated excellent performance and productivity, loyalty, professional pride and other noteworthy accomplishments. The recognized employee receives a day off with pay, a gift certificate from a local restaurant, the “Strongest Link” plaque and the symbolic “chain,” which the employee will be custodian of until a subsequent employee is recognized.
