It’s win and they’re in for the Skipstone Academy Warriors football team.

The Warriors must win their final two Glory For Christ East games of the regular season to qualify for the GFC playoffs and things get started tonight as they travel to Conyers to face the East Atlanta Mustangs at 7:30 p.m.

The top three teams in each division qualify for the postseason. The Anderson (S.C.) Cavaliers are 2-0 in the East, followed by the Georgia Force at 2-1. The Augusta Prep Cavaliers (1-1), East Atlanta (1-2) and Skipstone (0-2) are vying for the third and final GFC East playoff spot. The division champions in the East and West will get a first-round bye in the playoffs while the No. 2 East team will play the No. 3 West team in the first-round and vice versa.

“If we win our next two games against East Atlanta and Augusta Prep, we’ll clinch a playoff berth. If we lose one of the two, we’re eliminated from playoff contention,” said Warriors head coach Dan Salvador. “I told the guys the playoffs start now for us. We’ve got to win every week to advance, beginning with East Atlanta.”

Salvador feels that Skipstone (3-5 overall, 0-2 GFC East) is a much different team than the one which lost 21-0 to East Atlanta (5-2, 1-2) in the Warriors’ home opener Aug. 17. He said turnovers and penalties led to Skipstone’s loss that night.

“We drove on East Atlanta, but we made mistakes in the red zone and on special teams that cost us the game,” Salvador said. “Plus we didn’t have Jamiro [Winston] or [Anthony] Peavy at the time. Having that speed in the lineup definitely helps us now.”

Salvador said the Mustangs only scored one offensive touchdown in that 21-0 game and that was a 65-yard run in the third quarter. The other TDs for East Atlanta came on a punt return and a fumble return.

“If we execute well and don’t make crucial turnovers, we have a very good chance of beating East Atlanta,” Salvador said. “We have the team that can do it.”

Griffin Christian and Faith Christian are off tonight and they did not hold practice this week. They both get back into action on Oct. 19; GC at home against Crown Athletic and FCA on the road against Westside.
