Westmoreland defeated two challengers in the Republican primary for District 3, which includes Spalding, Lamar, Pike, Upson, Fayette and runs west to Columbus. There will be no other candidate’s name on the ballot, but the Georgia Secretary of State Elections Division has certified David Ferguson as a write-in candidate for the race.
Ferguson is one of several write-in candidates for the Nov. 6 election. The certified write-in candidates’ names do not appear on the ballots, and will have to be written (or typed) in, but votes for them will be counted.
There are write-in candidates in five of the state’s U.S. House races, Districts 3, 4, 5, 10 and 11, plus in one state House race, District 57. Former Georgia Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney is one of two who qualified to run in the Georgia District 4 U.S. House race.
In District 10, which includes neighboring Butts County, a portion of southern Henry County and runs east to Lincoln County, the write-in candidate is Brian Russell Brown. He is opposing incumbent Republican Paul Broun of Athens, who has constituent offices in Evans, Toccoa and Athens.
There are also eight write-in candidates certified to run for President and another three for Vice-President. The three parties — Democrat, Libertarian and Republican — have tickets with both candidates, but for write-ins, the races are separate.
The certified write-in candidates for President are Ross C. “Rocky” Anderson. David L. Byrne, Virgil Goode, Darrell Hykes, James Harris, Erin Kent Magee, Jill Reid and Jill Stein. The certified write-in candidates for Vice-President are Tom Cary, Cheri Honkala And Alyson Kennedy.
