It was the fifth loss in a row for Griffin Christian (1-5 overall, 0-2 ICSGA South) and the first win of the season for Calvary Christian (1-5 overall, 1-1 ICSGA South record) which both play in the Independent Christian Schools of Georgia and Alabama Athletic Association 11-Man League.
Lewis scored on a 93-yard kickoff return and also added a safety. McCray scored on a 45-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Taylor Dunn.
Dillan Brogdon led Griffin Christian in tackles.
The Crusaders travel to Stockbridge to face Community Christian 7:30 p.m., Friday in another ICSGA South affair.
Elsewhere across the area this weekend, one area team won, two others lost and a fourth had a late game scheduled for Saturday night.
Spalding High (1-2-1) started the week off Thursday hosting and losing to Dutchtown 24-21 in a Region 4-AAAA crossover game despite a season-best two touchdown passes, one 35 yards to Anthony Bush and the other 34 yards to Rodney Jackson, and a 1-yard touchdown run by senior quarterback Powell Krepps.
A mishandled snap on a Spalding punt, gave Dutchtown a 35-yard field with 6:11 left to play. The Bulldogs reached the end zone seven plays later, Williams Smith scoring the game-winner on an 8-yard touchdown run he bounced around the right end.
A night later, Class AAAA No. 2-state ranked Griffin High hosted and lost to Stockbridge 17-14 on a 27-yard field goal by Andrus Guillen with no time left on the clock in another Region 4-AAAA crossover game at Memorial Stadium. It was the first loss of the season for Griffin (4-1), which scored on 2-yard run by Malik Miller in the first half and a 3-yard run by Miller in the second half to tie the game 14-all on a night where the Bears suffered their first loss ever to a team from Henry County.
Griffin, which has posted comeback wins this season against Dutchtown, Jonesboro and Woodland-Stockbridge, hoped to push this one into overtime but had its hopes thwarted on Guillen who atoned for two missed field goals earlier in the game.
The lone area win on Friday came from Skiptone Academy which hosted and topped North Atlanta 42-18 as Jamiro Winston ran for 102 yards and two touchdown. It was the third win in a row for Skiptone (3-4) which also scored on a 73-yard kickoff return by Darryl Barnswell, a 30-yard pass from Alex Snider to Anthony Peavy, a 1-yard run by Christian Stewart and a big run by Rico Corbin.
The only other game in the area — Faith Christian’s homecoming game and senior night against Dominion Christian — was played after deadline Saturday night. The game, FCA’s lone home game of the season, was played at Griffin Christian’s Nix Field because the Lions do not currently have a home field.
