Jamiro Winston ran for 102 yards and two touchdowns as Skipstone Academy demolished winless North Atlanta 42-18 Friday at Warrior Field to win their third in a row in Glory For Christ League action.

The Warriors (3-4 overall, 0-2 GFC East) got their third win in as many games behind a team effort and a great individual game by Winston, who did all of his damage on six carries.

Coming off a big homecoming win where they allowed only 6 points, the Warriors’ defense came up big again to secure the win. After allowing two touchdowns early in the first half for a 12-0 Saints lead, Skipstone buckled down. From 9:23 in the second quarter until 1:11 before halftime, they forced three three 3-and-outs by the Saints.

Both teams looked out of sync on offense in the first quarter. On three consecutive series, North Atlanta (0-7, 0-3 GFC West) fumbled once in their own red zone and Skipstone fumbled twice outside the opposing goal line resulting in 6 points by the Saints.

On the opening kickoff of the second quarter, Darryl Barnswell returned the ball for a 73-yard touchdown behind a key block from senior captain Anthony Peavy to tie the game for the Warriors 12-all. After that Skipstone went on a tear, scoring their next 6 points off a 30-yard pass from quarterback Alex Snider to a wide open Peavy with 7:05 left in the half.

On perhaps their best possession of the game, the Warriors gained three first downs thanks to running back Christian Stewart, who gained 18 total yards. Stewart later scored on a 1-yard touchdown to make it 27-12 going into halftime.

Following a seven-minute drive by North Atlanta which featured plays by running backs Brett Marston and Michael Gilbert, the Saints scored to cut the deficit to 27-18 with 2 seconds left in the third. In the fourth quarter, Skipstone sealed the deal behind big TD runs from Rico Corbin and Jamiro Winston. The Warriors seemed to have found their niche on offense since this is their second straight game with 40-plus points.

Skipstone continues its season with a non-division game Oct. 5 against Calvary Christian at Warrior Field. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
