The two candidates for the Spalding County Board of Commissioners District 3 seat took questions Monday at a local NAACP meeting.

Both candidates were invited to the Griffin Branch NAACP political informational meeting at Eighth Street Baptist Church and fielded questions from the audience. Democrat Rita Johnson and Republican Michael Renew are running for the seat held by Democrat Bob Gilreath, who finished third in the three-person Democratic primary with Gregory McClarin and Johnson.

Johnson, at Monday’s meeting, reminded voters that she has been a local State Farm agent for the past 10 years, taking over Bain Proctor’s agency when he died. She emphasized her college basketball scholarship to demonstrate she is a team player, adding, “I feel I’m a key player to get the job done.”
