The Lady Crusaders played another state-ranked team Monday evening and lived to tell about it, beating No. 1 ranked Harvester Christian at home in five games to remain undefeated at 14-0.
In the newest GISA top-five poll, Harvester and Heirway Christian — teams GC has beaten — are tied for No. 1 in Class AA while GC is tied for second in the state in Class AA.
The Lady Crusaders won the match over Harvester 25-22, 22-25, 25-20, 19-25 and 15-9. It was GC's first 5-game match of the year.
“Harvester dug really well and had really good hitters. They are a very solid team,” said GC coach Melanie Foster. “We struggled on our serves, but we pushed through the adversity to come out on top. We didn’t quit.”
The Lady Crusaders kept the undefeated train rolling Tuesday evening, winning its third match over crosstown opponent Skipstone Academy 25-8, 25-9 and 25-22 to improve to 15-0.
Once again, Griffin Christian overpowered the young Lady Warriors of Skipstone in their match sweep at Skipstone’s home gym in Hampton. The GC starters got a chance to get some rest in Tuesday’s road win, which they will definitely need since GC travels to Columbus Thursday to play state-ranked Calvary Christian School (No. 2, GISA Class AAA) at 6 p.m.
Skipstone (0-7) travels to face Grace Baptist Thursday at 6 p.m.
