Griffin Christian, currently ranked second in GISA Class AA, played a very good match against a very good team, said Lady Crusaders coach Melanie Foster. Mount de Sales is currently ranked fifth in GISA Class AAA.
“We played very, very well against MDS,” Foster said. “They truly are the best team we’ve seen all year.”
GC won 29-27, 24-26, 25-16 and 25-10, clearly breaking the spirit of the Lady Cavs in Games 3 and 4.
Savannah Newman set the tone for the Lady Crusaders in Game 1, getting several good blocks in that contest and in Game 3, Mary Kate Blalock had a 12-point service run to put that game away.
“We played great team ball against MDS; we wouldn’t have won if we didn’t do that,” said GC coach Charles Stephens. “The girls played as a unit and took care of a very good team.”
The Lady Crusaders played No. 3 GISA AA state-ranked Harvester Christian Monday night and travel to Zion Baptist Church in Hampton to play crosstown foe Skipstone Academy today at 6 p.m.
And speaking of Skipstone, the Lady Warriors (0-6 overall) battled but fell short against Lafayette Christian last Thursday evening, falling in five games (2-3). Skipstone senior hitter Kenzie Moody had 3 kills and several blocks in the match.
