— Obama is the worst do-nothing president since Jimmy Carter. His acceptance speech was nothing but a re-run of the State of the Union speech from January. If he is re-elected the United States will be a third-world country at the end of his second term in 2016.

— Obama government or the Griffin and Spalding BOC. I can’t decide which is worse. We defeated the T-SPLOST, do the same thing to Obama.

— I am very surprised that President Obama did not bring over Fidel Castro from Cuba to speak at the Democratic National Convention.

— Anyone who can see beyond the end of their nose should know there was voter fraud in the presidential election in 2008. You haven’t seen nothing yet. The 2012 election will be just like elections in third-world countries. Just hope we don’t have riots like they do in these third-world countries because of presidential election fraud.

— I don’t understand why everyone is upset about the new Kroger. So what if the city and county are involved? Who do you think is paying for the new senior center? The citizens of Spalding County. And only a few select people can use this place. We all can use the Kroger. I will be very happy to see this new store.

— There have been so many UGA football players arrested that the TV show “Cops” is going to set up a permanent base in Athens.

— So the 17 percent that got property tax reductions, does that mean we will be getting refund checks with interest for the years we have been paying too much? Don’t get too excited if yours got reduced, most didn’t go down to what the real values are.

— Is there any way to get a sidewalk on Poplar Street around Griffin High? Many more students are walking to school via that route now. They walk in the road to avoid the wet grass. At the very least, could the shoulders of the road be scraped and cleared? Students on the road in dark clothing before sunrise with drivers blinded by oncoming headlights is going to lead to an accident.

— It would be nice if the GPD started enforcing the “no left turn” out of the Griffin High parking lot again. Teachers, remember the message you’re sending to those beginning drivers when you choose to ignore the law.

— I read the column in The Griffin Daily News written by Donna Brazile that Obama has made college more affordable. That might be true for the students that the government is sending monthly checks to, but for us that pay our way the cost continues to rise every year.

Comparing the senior center to Kroger is apples and oranges. The senior center provides a service to, yes, a select group of people. . . one of whom you will one day be if you stick around long enough. Kroger is a business and when you "use" the store, it is the business that profits, not you. I don't think anyone is complaining about Kroger relocating or providing the community with bigger and better service. (Were there complaints when Wal-Mart built the Super Store?) It's the special tax deals being made that's making the taxpayers more than a little upset. The idea that the new Kroger will help our economy by providing jobs and attracting new businesses is iffy at best. Have they guaranteed that all of those (70?) new jobs will be given to local people, or will they be relocating personnel from other Kroger stores? If their new location becomes a prime spot for other businesses, and some of our local smaller enterprises want to relocate, will they be given special tax breaks?
