A Spalding County Sheriff’s Office deputy was arrested Thursday night by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Spalding County Sheriff Wendell Beam reported that deputy Thomas Blake Custer, 31, a 10-year veteran of the Spalding County Sheriff’s Office, was arrested at approximately 9 p.m., by agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Region 2 and charged with forgery first degree.

Beam said “as a result of this incident deputy Custer was terminated from the Spalding County Sheriff’s Office.”

Custer was booked into the Sheriff's Office Detention Center, but later released on $5,703 bond, Beam said.

Chief Investigator Tony Ranieri said “the charge involves counterfeit money, that’s why there’s the first-degree charge.” He said the charges are from a GBI investigation and are not from on-duty actions.

“He was off duty,” Ranieri said.
