The City of Griffin Board of Commissioners approved the upgrade/purchase of Glock fourth generation .40 caliber pistols for the department from low bidder Ed’s Public Safety Supply in Stockbridge. The purchase of 100 new guns will be at no cost to the city, as the department will be trading in 100 of the current .40 caliber Glocks, which Police Chief Frank Strickland said are about 16-years old and average about $160 each to repair.
Also part of the trade-in are more than 200 forfeited weapons ranging from revolvers, shotguns and rifles to a Red Ryder BB gun. Forfeited guns are legally restricted and cannot be directly sold to the public. They must be destroyed or sold to federally licensed firearms dealer, which can then sell them to the public.
