The Lamar County Trojans football team got into the win column last Friday, getting a big win over the Eagle’s Landing Golden Eagles while the Pike County Pirates football team had a setback last Friday, falling to First Presbyterian Day of Macon.

Lamar County 41, ELHS 30:

BARNESVILLE — The Lamar County Trojans bounced back from their tie with Spalding on Aug. 31, defeating the Eagle’s Landing Golden Eagles 41-30 Sept. 7 in non-region action in their home opener.

A game that looked like a blowout turned out to be anything but as the Trojans (1-0-1) had to hold on for the win. Lamar led 28-6 at halftime.

“It was a wild game,” said Trojans first-year head coach Franklin Stephens. “We played well in the first quarter but not so well afterwards.”

Stephens said the team made plays when it had to, including blocking a kick for a safety. Lamar hosts Pike County Friday at 7:30 p.m.

First Presbyterian Day 24, Pike County 0:

MACON — After scoring 40 points in a win over Upson-Lee on Aug. 31, the Pirates of Pike County High were inexplicably shut out on Sept. 7, falling to the First Presbyterian Day Vikings 24-0 in non-region action on the road.

FPD, a Class A school, led Pike County 21-0 at the half.

Pike (1-1) looks to rebound this Friday as it travels to nearby Barnesville for a clash against Lamar County at 7:30 p.m.
