Four Griffin High softball players had multiple hits Thursday, leading the Lady Bears to an 8-2 win over the Stockbridge Lady Tigers in Region 4-AAAA action at home.

Griffin improves to 5-6 overall, 3-3 in region action while Stockbridge lost its second straight game to fall to 8-2, 3-2.

Stockbridge took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning and Griffin tied it at 1-all in the bottom half of the inning. A double by Lady Tigers’ first baseman Cailla Williams put Stockbridge up 2-1 in the second, but that would be the last lead Stockbridge would enjoy. Griffin scored two runs in the bottom of the second to take the lead for good at 3-2.

Griffin senior pitcher Cleopatra Randolph held Stockbridge in check after the second inning while the scoring onslaught continued for Griffin in the following innings. Chelsea Calloway (2 for 4, SB) continued her hot hitting for the Lady Bears, smashing a two-run triple in the fourth which scored Katelyn Hunt and Kaitlyn Wallace. Randolph helped her own cause with a single to score Calloway and Griffin led 6-2.

In the sixth, Amani Durant (3 for 4) tripled home Destiny Holston and Forrest Dukes singled home pinch-runner Katelyn Handley for the final 8-2 margin.

Wallace and Holston also had two hits for the Lady Bears, which won their second straight game. Griffin's back in action Sept. 11 on the road at Jonesboro High at 5:30 p.m.
