The agenda for the workshop includes a discussion regarding calculations of the 2012 assessments and update on current appeals with Larry Griggers of AVTACS, who was contracted by the county to help with the reassessments as well as Chief Appraiser Tim Whalen. Also on the agenda is Clerk of Superior Court Marcia Norris for an update and status report on the Board of Equalization and 2010 and 2011 appeals.
The meeting will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, in Room 108 of the Courthouse Annex. The Griffin-Spalding Board of Education has also been invited, as the impact on property tax collections impacts all three boards and their respective budgets.
Tuesday night, the city commissioners will take up the Kroger bond issue again. The board is scheduled to vote on the actual issuance of the bond totalling %866,397, to help pay for the construction of the new Kroger.
Earlier this month both the city and county approved an intergovernmental agreement to use the increased tax revenue in the West Griffin Village Tax Allocation District 2 from the site improvements – the building of the new larger store – to pay off the bonds issued to be utilized for the construction of the store.
Under the agreement the city and county will continue to get the base tax revenue based on the value of the site, $180,000, as of Dec. 31, 2009. Any property taxes from the TAD over that will go to pay off the $866,397 in bonds until they are paid off, not to exceed 30 years.
The city is also scheduled to vote on purchases of eight traffic counters and a Ford van, as well as a couple of contracts, and side setback variance for 130 Cherry Street.
