A career expo for veterans and other job seekers will be held from 1 to 4 p.m., Tuesday, at the Kiwanis of Griffin Center, 1025 South Hill St.

The Georgia Department of Labor, the Department of Veteran Services, the Griffin Area Employer Committee, Griffin-Spalding Chamber of Commerce, Southern Crescent Technical College and Workforce Development Corporation are sponsoring the event. The event is targets at veterans, but all job seekers are encouraged to attend.

The expo will feature about 60 employers, educational institutions and resource agencies that provide assistance to job seekers, said Griffin Career Center Manager William Futrell. The employers will be hiring or discussing current and future employment opportunities, while other organizations will provide educational and other resources.

Futrell said he anticipates people from 11 counties around Griffin will attend the job expo. Admission is free and open to the public.

Applicants should bring plenty of resumes and be prepared to fill out company applications and interview for available job openings. Attendees are encouraged to dress appropriately to improve their opportunities for employment.

“As more of our veterans end their terms of service, I want to ensure that we welcome them back home properly and that we acknowledge what they did for our country,” said State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler.

“Although we are seeing signs of growth in the economy,” Butler said, “it will still be a while before we recover completely. The Georgia Department of Labor will continue to work hard, matching the unemployed with companies in a position to hire. This effort includes career expos, such as this one, that introduce veterans and potential employers.”

According to the Department of Labor, those expected to participate in the expo include Adecco, A Higher Calling, American Woodmark, Army National Guard, Bank of America, Boys to Men Barber Salon, Brightmoor Hospice, Checkers, City of Griffin, Clayton State University, Confidential Security, Department of Community Affairs, Department of Corrections, Department of Veteran Services, Dover Staffing, Eco-Scrub, Edward Jones Investments, Express Personnel, Georgia Department of Corrections, Griffin Fire-Rescue, Hammond Services, Javelin Tech, Lowe’s, Personnel Options. Southern Crescent Agency on Aging, Southern Crescent Technical College, Standard Textile, T-Mobile, Truck Driver Institute, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Navy and Verizon Wireless.
