The Southern Crescent Technical College (SCTC) Foundation’s seventh annual Red Carpet Gala, held on Aug. 11 on the college’s Griffin campus, received well over 300 guests who enjoyed an evening of fine dining, music, and fundraising.

The guests eagerly demonstrated support for SCTC through their lively participation in a reverse raffle and by generously bidding during both a silent and a live auction. Early estimates indicate that proceeds from the event will be in excess of $40,000, with that money going to support the needs of the college.

The evening culminated with John Tidwell and Robert Brock splitting the $5,000 grand prize in the reverse raffle and donating $1,000 back to the Foundation.

SCTC Foundation trustee Jack Smith enlivened the crowd as the event’s emcee. Fellow Foundation trustee Randy Howell and The Party Time Band provided the evening’s entertainment, playing a variety of musical selections that encouraged the guests to dance.

SCTC President Dr. Randall Peters expressed gratitude on behalf of the college and thanked those in attendance — who were comprised of representatives from 24 area businesses as corporate sponsors and dozens of other faithful friends of the college.

Attendees had an opportunity to bid on approximately 250 silent and live auction items and in-kind services, which were donated from individuals and businesses. Silent auction items ranged from jewelry, vacation trips, handmade pieces, home décor items, artwork, autographed books, electronics, fine dining coupons and an assortment of other items and services.

The Red Carpet Gala was a success, primarily due to the unwavering support of those who attended and those who generously donated items for auction. The SCTC Foundation expressed its great appreciation through co-chairman Otis Blake Jr.

“Tonight is a grand night for Southern Crescent Technical College. The campus has never looked so elegant, and the eager participation of our guests truly overwhelms us. We could not have asked for a more impressive turn-out,” Blake said.

“The college deserves the very best we can offer in our support, and the communities have surely risen to the occasion with their attendance and their donations. We are very thankful for their generosity,” said co-chairman Jeff Stribling.
