County honors Southside Riders for charity efforts

Spalding County has proclaimed Aug. 15 as Southside Riders Association Day.

Before a standing-room only crowd comprised of the motorcycle club’s more than 70 members and their families, the commissioners honored the club for its charity efforts in the community. Having been in operation and a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization for the past 14 years, the club has raised more than $400,000 for local and mostly children’s charities.

County Commissioner Raymond Ray suggested the proclamation for the Southside Riders and noted the club has also been recognized for the charity work by the governor and lieutenant governor as well as by the city of Griffin. In Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle’s commendation last month, the group was recognized for their outstanding volunteer work performed on behalf of others in the community,
