The owner of the Lighthouse Restaurant has been charged with arson in the July 10 fire that destroyed the Milner landmark.

Steven Brehaut, 37, of Milner has been charged with first degree arson and is being held in the Lamar County Jail, according to the State Fire Marshal’s Office. While not willing to discuss specifics, Glenn Allen of the Fire Marshal’s Office, said “after investigation, there is evidence the owner intentionally set his place of business on fire.”

Please see Thursday’s Griffin Daily News for more on this story.

I knew the Lighthouse Business had fallen off, and the food was not as good as before, but why burn your place of business. Sell it and get out.......but now he has shamed his family and lost everything they worked all their lives to make a success. Shame on him. Maybe he can run a kitchen in prison.

Look before you guys start BEATING down Steven, understand he lost his mother, and his world have been turned upside down. I am one who have been knowing him for years and he has always been kind, and giving.

A lifetime of hard work dont get wiped away by one stupid moment. He was probably under pressure, but I know him personally and i know in my heart of hearts he didnt mean to do this, he just got in over his head.

Please lets not rush to judgement

We probably won't see the Lighthouse rebuilt since the fire was ruled arson. What a shame. Why not sell rather than destroy?
