The City of Griffin will now charge for false burglar and fire alarms.

The city commissioners on Tuesday voted to approve the second and final reading on a change in the city code allowing for a $40 penalty on the third and subsequent false alarms.

Public Safety Director and Police Chief Frank Strickland said last month the change increases the penalty from $20 to $40, but said “we never charged for false alarms before.”

Strickland said, “if you have an issue, we probably won’t charge you, if you are getting it fixed.”
