Beginning Aug. 1, City of Griffin utilities customers can pay and manage their accounts online.

Director of Electric Bill Bosch explained that online bill pay would include a 3 percent fee to pay with a credit or debit card, “the same as downstairs,” he told the city commissioners during a demonstration Tuesday morning.

“We wanted some type of uniformity with Customer Service,” he said.

Bosch explained that the cost covers the credit card processing fees charged by the banks. Customers can also set up a bank draft to avoid the 3 percent fee.

Gas South charges a "convenience fee". So they get a check from me. City of Griffin will continue to do so. All my other bills are paid online. The company I work for accepts credit card payments. The credit card processor says it is illegal to charge the customer a fee for using the credit card. Our company does not do this.

They are nuts to think I will pay an extra 3% when I can make a quick trip to pay in person or send in a check. I pay all other bills online and don't have this extra charge added.
