— The end of this month will mark the one-year anniversary of the greatest decision of my life, leaving Griffin for greener pastures in another state. Now, I know what you’re thinking. How could anyone leave such a stained skid-mark of a community for another town and be happy about it? I will say that it was incredibly difficult to leave behind a place that could proudly boast of having the highest unemployment rate for many miles around, crumbling infrastructure, a dead economy, zero cultural or intellectual discourse, a morbidly obese population of aging drug-addicts and tea partiers (often one in the same) who still believe in creationism, and absolutely, positively, no potential to change any of the aforementioned qualities. Oh how, I’ll miss you, Griffin. Hope you remaining Griffinites have fun without me. Watch out for the rednecks and meth lab explosions.

— I really do appreciate it when the men collecting trash/recyclables for the city let me know when it’s clear to pass their trucks. It helps keeps traffic moving and we all benefit. With all sincerity, thank you, guys, for what you do.

— The T-SPLOST is an evil communist plan. Vote no.

— Memo to electorate — You can’t believe a single thing said on an Obama TV commercial. He has told nothing but lies since he came on the scene in 2007.

— The AJC needs to have their Truth-O-Meter tested. It seems to be liberal and has trouble recognizing the “truth”.

— Finally, someone had the nerve to call our self-serving city government for what it is. You could say the same for our county government. New leadership may take time, maybe the voters will finally wake up.

— I cannot believe the Spalding County Animal Control does not have air conditioning in its building. Talk about inhuman for both animals and people working there. We find money for everything else, how about this? Maybe another tax.

— Spend the heck out of our tax money. Property values have dropped all across the USA except for Spalding County. Ours have stayed the same and even increased in a few cases. We pay some of the highest taxes in the state of Georgia and that is not enought for our politicians. They want to spend more and more. Between property taxes, sales taxes and other fees the county gets, seems as if they get enough to run the county if they would try to run it as they would their home.

To the person who is blissfully sitting in greener pastures: You remind me of my son. Throughout high school he kept saying, "The only thing I want out of Griffin is . . .out of Griffin!" Like you, he found his greener pasture where the surroundings were much better suited to his lifestyle. Also like you, he had the freedom to pack up his things and move. Not everyone who is unhappy here is so fortunate. I do hope you have not purchased property in your new location or made other long term committments because every community has a variety of people with different value systems and beliefs, and you seem to let that bother you. High unemployment rate, crumbling infrastructure, dead economy, and zero cultural events are good reasons to leave. Political and religious beliefs shouldn't bother you unless these people are harrassing you to change your views and join them. And, why is obesity a problem for anyone other than the people who are suffering with it and those who love them? Unfortunately, meth labs and drug addictions are a national problem not just a Griffin problem, and I'll bet your new location has more than a few. Write us again next year, and let us know how your doing.

ditto to all of the above.

“Spalding County is leading the way with the crown jewel of South Metro," Wilson said of the smoking ban at parks. "The City of Atlanta is just talking about it now.”

Really?! passed 2 of your police officers today that were smoking in their patrol cars. Hmmm

Its horrendous in downtown Griffin. And they wonder why business won't come. It's the Crown Jewel alright! The city is fleecing its customers on garbage $$ and their response was they offer a 'quality' service! As suppose to who? We cant use no one else.

Joining you in those greener pastures myself by the end of the year. Happy anniversary!!!

Well you had a choice to leave and go where things are easy or stay and try to change things for the better; you chose the former. So clearly you're still as much of the problem as the people you can't seem to stand here and if you're as awesome as you make yourself out to be; you just made the city worse by leaving. To be honest I didn't notice you were gone so you couldn't have been that important.
